PLUS Charitable Trust is proud to partner with Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center (BCNC) since 2017 through grant funding and volunteering.
Founded in 1969, BCNC empowers Asians and new immigrants to build healthy families, achieve greater economic success, and contribute to thriving communities by providing a range of innovative and family-centered programs and services to over 13,000 children, youth, and adults every year from four locations in Boston and Quincy. The mission of BCNC is to ensure that the children, youth, and families we serve have the resources and supports they need to achieve greater economic success and social well-being.
As the Asian population has grown in Greater Boston, so has the need for services tailored to the community. BCNC has been responding to the high rates of unemployment, increased mental health concerns, and educational needs of children from Asian immigrant families. Programs include:
- Childcare programs aim to improve the well-being of children and working families by providing licensed, culturally and linguistically competent, high-quality early education and childcare.
- Youth leadership and college access programs prepare Asian immigrant and Asian American high school youth for future success.
- For recent immigrant parents, Family Services supports them in navigating social services, health care, education, and other systems. We also train Chinese speaking parents, particularly those who have children with special needs, to become advocates for their children.
- Through ESOL classes and workforce initiatives with employer partners, BCNC equips adult immigrants with English and workforce skills to help them secure jobs that pay family-sustaining wages and offer career opportunities and benefits.
- Pao Arts Center strengthens Boston’s Chinatown and the Asian community and celebrates Asian culture and community by showcasing Asian artists through exhibitions, hosting classes, providing space for organizing, and creating a forum to explore innovative programs.
