NYAWC, the New York Asian Women’s Center, helps women and their children overcome domestic violence and abuse. It offers a safe haven through multi-lingual support programs and provides families with shelter services. It operates two emergency residences with a total capacity of 40 beds providing a safe home to residents for up to 135 days.
The center runs a 24 hour multilingual hotline service offering counseling in over a dozen Asian languages and dialects. Its children’s programs provide recreational activities, art therapy, tutoring, advocacy, entitlement assistance, mentoring and case management
Since 2011 it has provided legal relief to clients with immigration problems breaking the powers of abusers or traffickers, and has brought legal counsel to undocumented youth.
Culturally sensitive, all services are free and confidential. With the ultimate goal of empowering women to govern their own lives, the center also works to raise public awareness about violence against women and acts as an agent of social change.
